He Asked, and I Chose Him

I.
“Do you have a human teacher?” He asks me, voice gravel and clipped.
“No,” I tell Him. “No, I don’t.”
“Are you looking for one?”
“No.”
“Good,” He says. “That’s settled, then.”

II.
I understand Loki teaches me Himself and my expectation changes to acceptance.
I kept waiting for a human teacher and He redirects me.

III.
He shows me why He teaches me and not a human being.
I see the way I clash with other frameworks, how they don’t support my path,
which has always been outside standard structures.
“Do you really want to go back into a set community you’ll need to fight your way out of again?
Do you want to relearn that lesson?
Your sovereignty was hard won. It’s your choice,” He says—
a dare and a warning.

IV.
The tension leaves my body.
I fold into His warmth.
I have to admit I’m grateful not to belong anyplace,
and to have my own worlds to build.
