I.
Queen of the Night tulips—
black silk,
warmed against my lips.
I inhale Her delicate center:
a chamber of pistil
and pollen-drenched stamens.
She gleams against white.
II.
Pink Perfection camellias
on leather ovals—
emerald, glossy beauties.
Her scent: green, fresh, lightly floral.
Unfurling like roses
from late winter into spring.
III.
Daffodils—
trumpet flowers, King Alfred’s—
golden chalices.
Spring began the moment
I saw His budding royal stem.
IV.
White cherry blossoms—
open-hearted, sweet flora.
Round petals float
like snow on wind.
I danced beneath
your flowering canopy.
V.
Self-heal, purple blooms—
bees shared their sweetest with me.
Nectar-drunk,
as a child I joined the bees
in their dizzy delight.
